Make Basketball Practice Fun

As a coach, you want your team to be the best that it can be. But running a great practice isn’t always easy. Here are three tips to make your basketball practice more efficient.

How do I run a great basketball practice?

Tip #1 – Be Organized – Build a Practice Plan

The first step to having a great practice is being organized. Before practice starts, take some time to plan out what you want to accomplish. This will help you use your time more efficiently and keep your players focused. Once you have a plan, share it with your team so that everyone knows what to expect.

Tip #2 – Maximize Repetitions – Use Small-Sided Games

The best way for players to develop skills is through active repetition. That’s why it’s important to spend as little time talking and as much time playing as possible. You should also focus on individual or small group drills so that your players are handling the ball as much as possible. The more repetitions they get, the better they’ll become at dribbling, passing, and shooting.

Tip #3 – Make Practice Fun – Have a Backup Plan

Nobody likes a boring practice. If your players are dreading coming to practice, they’re not going to give 100%. To avoid this, have a list of change-up drills available that your team loves to run. When players are having fun, they’re more likely to play with maximum effort. And when they’re playing with maximum effort, they’re going to improve faster.

By following these tips, you can take your basketball practice from good to great. Be sure to be organized, maximize repetitions, and make practice fun for your team! If you do all of those things, you’ll see real improvement in your players both on and off the court!
